The Trauma, The Healing & How To Get Thru Both

I considered myself lucky in life to not feel the effects of trauma, so I thought…until I was in a car accident that really changed the way I looked at it. I then realized how the trauma and the healing was going to be a top priority for me.

I had heard of trauma of course but always thought of it in physical terms not emotional. My car accident was very traumatic on a physical level but I started to see the emotional side. The emotional trauma that came with my accident became an interest to me & the many unfortunate ways it can affect the human being.

“Psychological trauma is damage to the mind that occurs as a result of a distressing event. Trauma is often the result of an overwhelming amount of stress that exceeds one’s ability to cope, or integrate the emotions involved with that experience.” this from Wikipedia. These events can be from birth to current age and can show up immediately or take time to evolve in a negative way.

The stresses of trauma, be it physical or emotional, is the symptom(s) of the trauma. The residual effects can alter the body which would produce physical or emotional pain, anxiety, depression, sleep issues and the list goes on. If a person is unaware of the damage that the trauma has caused or is in denial of how much of an impact the trauma has on their total being, will start to feel the side effects. These side effects are the symptoms will continue to persist and in many cases compound the longer it goes unnoticed, unaccepted and untreated.

The symptoms of trauma can be treated successfully with Reiki. This healing modality targets specific areas to work on “breaking down” what the trauma is, where it came from and then start building the body back up on a physical, mental & emotional level. It’s extremely important to be open to getting to the “root” of the trauma so the healing can begin.

A Reiki Practitioner can detect trauma just from a person’s body language and they can feel the heaviness of the trauma on the client’s being. The client will show themselves with “numb” tendencies, lack of joy & perhaps of all emotions. A Reiki session to a client dealing with trauma, can feel like a big embrace by a warm blanket. The immediate release can bring tears but the client feels the safety of the space to be able to release the negative energy & begin the journey to accept the positive energy in it’s place.

The two following examples will show how Reiki therapy can assist in physical & emotional healing. The therapies will differ depending on what areas of the body have been affected physically by a traumatic event or how the trauma was received emotionally by the client.

For a physical trauma, i.e. injury, the Reiki therapy would target the specific area & then the surrounding areas. The injury would cause stress to the immediate area then reverberate to the surrounding areas. The stress would cause a blockage to the flow of the energy in the human body. The Reiki therapist would work on clearing this blockage then continue to work on rebuilding the energy in a positive way to get the flow regulated & balance restored.

For mental or emotional trauma, i.e. incident in life or physical injury that has left the client with residual emotional pain, the Reiki therapy would target the specific type of life incident. For emotional abuse, the therapist would work with the Soul, heart & throat chakras/areas of the body. For sexual abuse, the therapist would work with the root, sacral, soul, heart & throat chakras/areas of the body. Like the physical trauma, the work would start by clearing the blockages then continue to work on rebuilding the positive energy in the body.

Any type of trauma to the human body can be detrimental and left untreated or unacknowledged, can lead to life threatening circumstances. Acknowledging the trauma is the first step and sometimes the hardest. Finding the right treatment and following thru to get your physical and emotional health back into balance is the next step in the right direction. Receiving the benefits from the therapy you choose can be life changing just as the traumatic experience was. If you are willing to put the trauma behind you, an experienced Reiki therapist can assist you in doing just that.
